At NCS, we believe that everyone deserves to feel valued, supported, and part of a caring community—especially on holidays that celebrate love and compassion. Last week, that spirit came to life as clients at all three of our residences celebrated Valentine’s Day with festive crafts, sweet treats, and moments of connection.
Last week we celebrated Thanksgiving with staff, volunteers, and our wonderful clients at the NCS Residence, Louis Nine House, and Chance for Change.
Tamia has moved out of Louis Nine House (LNH), NCS’s supportive housing program for young adults, and into her own apartment!
This week, clients and staff across all of our program sites had the opportunity to beat the heat at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania! The expansive water park is one of the largest in the Northeast, and our clients were not disappointed by the various thrilling rides and relaxing swim time.
Donnavan, the superintendent at Louis Nine House (LNH) in the South Bronx, has been with NCS for over four years now. Donnavan exemplifies our “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” spirit as a member of the facilities team working at Louis Nine House and the greater NCS community. He never hesitates to step outside of his job description to help our clients and his coworkers as well.
Louis Nine House residents got to enjoy some delicious pizzas following a donation of pita bread we were lucky enough to receive from Copia, an organization that picks up unused food throughout the city and distributes to those in need.
Last week, a few of our residents joined Louis Nine House Arts Coordinator, Jabari Jones in a jewelry making class!
To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year, Volunteers from Syneos Health visited Louis Nine House to prepare breakfast, hear a panel of NCS clients reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s famous quotes, and remember all that he did for the civil rights movement and overall social progress in the US.
We are so lucky to have such dedicated staff and volunteers at NCS who were willing to work on Thanksgiving to provide our clients with an unforgettable holiday meal.

NCS Scholars and Louis Nine House residents recently visited Brown Harris Stevens’ midtown office to meet with employees from different departments and learn about their career paths.

Louis Nine House (LNH) is home to 46 young adults who have aged out of foster care or experienced homelessness and mental illness. In addition to housing, the residents have access to supportive services including creative outlets that encourage personal and professional development through music, visual and performance art, and other forms of self-expression.
Last week, Louis Nine House resident TiAsia was featured in Vogue for her work as part of Custom Collaborative, a 14-week intensive design program that teaches low-income and immigrant women about fashion design, the fashion industry, and sustainability!

Muray, an NCS client, has dreamed of becoming a professional fashion designer for a long time. When NCS’s vocational staff connected her with the Bombas Mentorship Program, she got “feet-on” industry experience like she never had before.
