Memorial Day Celebrations at NCS

This Memorial Day, both Louis Nine House and the NCS Residence hosted vibrant celebrations filled with good food, lively music, and the joy of shared community.

At the NCS Residence, the afternoon was especially meaningful as several resident veterans joined in the festivities. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the day’s significance and the importance of creating spaces where those who have served can find dignity, recognition, and belonging.

According to the 2024 HUD Point-in-Time (PIT) count, 32,882 individuals experiencing homelessness in 2024 are veterans, which accounts for 5.3% of all people experiencing homelessness in the U.S. While this number represents a decrease in recent years, thanks to coordinated efforts across government and nonprofit sectors, too many veterans are still without the support and housing they deserve.

Across both residences, Memorial Day was marked with delicious meals, great company, and moments of connection that reflect the heart of NCS’s mission. These gatherings are more than just celebrations—they’re opportunities for clients and staff to build relationships, foster healing, and experience the joy of being part of a caring community.

At NCS, we’re proud to provide a safe, stable environment where veterans and New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds can rebuild their lives with dignity and community.
