Happy birthday to Mr. Jan!
The NCS Residence is a supportive housing facility for adults who struggle with mental health and substance use disorders among other complex challenges, located on the Upper East Side. The environment at the Residence focuses on helping our chronically homeless tenants to remain in their homes safely and stably and supporting their engagement in the community.
In 1985, the NCS Residence opened its doors to our first tenants, and some of them are still there today… like Jan!
Each month at the residence, clients and staff gather to celebrate everyone who has a birthday that month. June was a busy birthday month, as we celebrated 6 clients, including Mr. Jan who turned 85 this year!
Fellow resident (and June birthday buddy) Donna shared, “I had the absolute pleasure of escorting and spending time with my favorite neighbor Mr. Jan. What an honor! I gave him a coffee mug with his horoscope sign on it and you would have thought it was made of gold! He ate lots of cake and even more ice cream! What an honor it is to be his friend and neighbor. It reminded me to always have gratitude!!!”
