How BC Came Home

Three years ago, BC lived in a homeless shelter and struggled with substance use disorder. Her challenging path to recovery improved when she started attending meetings at Chance for Chance, NCS’s outpatient substance use treatment program.

BC loved attending Chance for Change meetings, sometimes going as many as five days per week. The attentive staff members were able to help BC work through her issues, but there was still one big one weighing on her: she wanted a permanent place to call home.

“I cried every day because I wanted to get out of the shelter,” BC said about her experience.

Fortunately, our staff referred BC to fill a vacancy at the NCS Residence. She has lived there comfortably for the past three years.

Now, along with continuing to participate in Chance for Change meetings, she has her own apartment and access to additional case management and other supports when she needs them.

“Chance for Change helped me out a lot. I’m glad that I got a place to stay,” BC shared. “I have a home, and I’m doing okay.”
