“I love to read literature. I’m actually working on a novel. It’s a coming-of-age story. It’s about leaving North Carolina, coming to New York, and pursuing a dream. That dream is to become a successful writer. That’s more or less the plot of the book and it’s based off my own experience. I moved to New York thirty years ago. I lived in a shelter for about six months. Then I was placed here and have been here ever since. This place has provided resources and I’m using those resources. Since I’ve been here, I’ve gotten my Masters in Fine Arts, in creative writing from City College. Getting my Masters was magnificent. I’m first generation, the first in my family to have gone to college.”
