“I’ve been in the social service field for about fifteen plus years, working mostly in homeless shelters with families. I love the work. I just find a connection between myself and helping others to overcome barriers – drug addiction, sexual or domestic abuse, and helping people achieve their goals.
When I came to Louis Nine maybe two years ago it was my first time working with young adults, and I can honestly say that this has been the most challenging but rewarding aspect of my career. It’s challenging because we work with mostly 18-24 year olds and it’s difficult to get them to see that there’s more to life than just what they have now. But it’s rewarding because we show them that there is more to life. I’m able to watch them better themselves – going to school, getting a GED, maintaining a job, paying rent on time. And we’re able to expose the tenants to the arts, taking them to visit MoMA, they play instruments, they’ve gone to performances. I’m needed here in this field.”
