Dawson got a job!

Louis Nine House resident Dawson shared his inspiring story at Celebrating Innovation on January 29, 2020. Growing up in the foster care system and later in shelters, Dawson felt alone but after coming to NCS, he learned to believe in himself. This past summer Dawson fulfilled his dream of graduating from trade school and shared with the event attendees that he now hopes to start his own construction business and employ other NCS residents. Watch Dawson’s speech at Celebrating Innovation and read more about Dawson’s story.

One Celebrating Innovation attendee, NextGen Network co-chair and NCS Board Member, Matthew Hughes, was so inspired by Dawson that he reached out to his business contacts, asking if anyone had any job openings. A week and a half later, Dawson interviewed to be a porter and doorman at a luxury Upper East Side condo building and was hired on the spot!

This past Friday was Dawson’s first day on the job — less than one month since Celebrating Innovation!

We are so proud of Dawson and all of his hard work and thankful to Matthew Hughes and the example he sets for how we can all do more.
