ABOUT US:

Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS) helps New Yorkers who have a history of homelessness, often compounded by mental illness or substance use, to achieve their highest level of independence. We were established in 1982 by faith and community leaders on Manhattan’s Upper East Side who believed that homelessness is the responsibility of the entire community. More than 40 years later, we are still guided by the principle that neighbors should help neighbors.

Today, NCS offers an array of groundbreaking housing and supportive services, including counseling, substance use treatment, vocational and educational programs, and employment support, and we are poised for further growth.

NCS provides New Yorkers who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with a home, a community, and access to the services that they need to thrive.

POSITION SUMMARY:

NCS Residence, a long-term, supportive housing facility on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, houses 65 formerly homeless men and women, the majority of whom are mentally ill and have been chronically homeless. Staff at the NCS Residence, including social workers, case managers, and a part-time psychiatrist, provide case management and mental health counseling. In addition, we provide a full range of services including meals, money management, vocational and educational programs, and recreational activities all aimed at enhancing and supporting residents’ independent living.

As a Case Aide, you are equally important to the successful operations of NCS Residence, and the services offered to the tenants. While maintaining a professional demeanor at all times in your interactions with the tenants and other team members, maintain the safety and security of the NCS Residence tenants/facility, provide administrative/programmatic support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work schedule is 5 days each week as follows:

    • Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    • Fridays: 1:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m.

    • Saturdays- 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

  • Monitor front entrance and provide security for the tenants and building.

  • Document activity during shift in staff log and document information for placement in resident’s files as appropriate.

  • Provide medication monitoring services to tenants in need.

  • Provide support to staff at all levels to ensure quality service provision and participate fully in an interdisciplinary team approach for resident treatment.

  • Assist with meals for the residents as needed such as prepping and serving meals and kitchen clean-up.

  • Sort and distribute mail.

  • Monitor compliance with Residence policies.

  • Prepare meals for tenants.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires at least a high school diploma (or equivalent); associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Prior experience in social service environment, particularly working with an older homeless/formerly homeless, mentally ill and/or chemically addicted individuals.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Strong English language written and verbal communication skills; Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

  • Successfully complete a background screening process that includes fingerprinting prior to employment. A section of the background screen requires address history for the last 28 years.

  • Are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are selected for the position, proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 will be required as part of the onboarding process.

SALARY RANGE: $29,125 - $32,760

Final salary will be determined based on various factors which may include internal equity, work experience, skills, knowledge, and/or education and/or certifications.
