V has a long-term history of substance use. Having become homeless, seven years ago she moved into the NCS Residence. With support from her case manager, she decided to enter a 12-step self-help program where she successfully got sober. Living clean, she set her next goal: finding a job. She enrolled in cosmetology school and obtained her license. Her first job was part-time, in the television/film production industry. Ultimately, she was able to gain full-time employment in the industry she loves.  In 2016 V experienced a setback, when she had to undergo heart surgery.  She was determined to recover quickly and maintain both her sobriety and her job - and she did just that.  By 2017, she had saved enough money to move out into an apartment.  While she was sad to leave her home of the past seven years, she was excited for this next step.  She has remained in touch with our staff and some fellow residents. She reports that she continues to work and to maintain sobriety. She credits NCS with saving her life.
