Development Assistant

Reports to: Development and Communications Coordinator

Basic Functions: The Development Assistant plays an important role in supporting and participating in all aspects of the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter’s fund raising efforts. S/he assists the development staff in managing logistical details of special events, serves as the steward of the agency’s donor database, and provides clerical and administrative support.

Responsibilities Include:

Maintaining data in Raiser’s Edge

  • Entering donations

  • Updating donor information and creating records for new donors

  • Running donor reports, mailing lists, and campaign results


  • Generating acknowledgement letters and tracking them

  • Assisting in production and distribution of programmatic, promotional and development materials, and ensuring that there is adequate inventory

  • Providing support for events and community outreach activities

  • Maintaining charitable registration status in appropriate states


  • Assisting in the maintenance and posting of content to NCS’s social networking feeds and agency website

  • Producing a periodic newsletter (electronic and/or print) and other communications

Clerical and administrative support to Development staff

  •  Filing all departmental paperwork

  • Maintaining electronic copies of all grant proposals and responses

  • Processing appeal and event mailings

  • Ordering departmental supplies


  • Other duties as assigned


  • A Bachelor’s Degree

  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Familiarity with major social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

  • Strong written, verbal and organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment

  •  Office experience is preferable

  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge is preferable
